The New Ageing Index: The Key Things You Need to Know

Our New Ageing Index—the first of its kind in home care—reveals how the UK really feels about ageing.

Dementia is emerging as the UK’s biggest health concern, with 43% of people now viewing it as a greater threat than cancer. Fear of dementia has risen in recent years, while fear of cancer has fallen, reflecting a growing awareness of its impact. For families, the reality can be overwhelming: nearly half of dementia carers have had to leave work, and 30% have sold or downsized their homes to cover care costs.

Caring for a loved one is both challenging and rewarding. While 77% of carers say they want more support, 76% still find joy in their role, despite the pressures and sacrifices it often demands.

Private care is increasingly on the radar, with half of adults now considering it and over half believing it offers greater choice. Yet limited funding and options continue to weigh heavily on families.

Technology is becoming central to ageing well, with 90% saying older adults need more help navigating tech, and 84% believing AI could reduce loneliness.

Safety concerns are also rising, as 76% feel there are too many unlicensed carers and 77% worry about fake carers online. Most feel safer with regulated providers, highlighting the need for oversight alongside innovation.
