From a 25-year career as a delivery driver to finding her passion as a Care Professional, Heidi shares what inspires her and why she’s never felt more supported in a role.
Five years ago, Heidi made the decision to change careers after spending 25 years as a delivery driver. Like many others during COVID, she found herself on furlough and wanted to take her life in a new direction. That’s when she joined Home Instead, and she hasn’t looked back since.
“I was looking for a career change after being on furlough for 5 months during Covid from my previous job.”
Heidi quickly discovered that being a Care Professional is more than just a role; it’s about making real connections. She describes her favourite thing about her visits.
“The appreciation from our clients that I have helped them or understood them. The way they are feeling and how they like things to be done.”
When asked about special moments with clients, Heidi said she has too many to count.
“For me, it’s when they know I have heard them and understand them.”
But what really stands out for Heidi is the difference she’s felt working at Home Instead compared to other workplaces.
“Working for Home Instead has been better than any other employment I have been in. When I first joined, I thought that all the things that they said regarding how they look after you and make sure you are paired with the right clients, and the support they give you, etc, would not be anywhere near as good as they said it is! After working for Home Instead for over 4 years, I know they do as they say! Everyone is always so supportive, and there is always someone to help me with anything I need.”
This job has also had a personal impact on Heidi:
“The job has changed me because I have felt valued by clients, the office support team and management. Everyone really does care.”
Her advice to anyone considering becoming a Care Professional?
“It’s not something everyone can do, but if you think you could, then Home Instead is the best place to do it!”
And when it comes to support from her team, Heidi couldn’t be clearer:
“The office/support team are brilliant. There is always someone to help with anything and guide you through. No question is too silly, and they always reassure and support you.”
Finally, Heidi shared something that touched us deeply:
“I’ve truly never felt more supported in a role. During my 5 years of working with Home Instead, the compassion is second to none. They are all incredible from the top down and I am grateful to be part of this team. I’ve seen firsthand how we are different from others, how when we say that we will do anything to help our caregivers, we do that. If I’ve ever had an issue, it’s been promptly dealt with.”
We’re so proud to have Heidi on our team and grateful for the difference she makes every single day.
