Being a Care Professional with Home Instead is about more than providing care, it’s about building relationships and making a real difference every day.
Being a Care Professional isn’t just a job; it’s about making meaningful connections and having the time to care in the right way. At Home Instead, we’re proud that our team can offer more person-centred support, longer visits, and genuine companionship. One of our wonderful Care Professionals, Jemma, shared her thoughts and experiences about working with us:
1. What inspired you to apply to work with us?
“That you do longer visits, more person-centred care. That you do companionship visits and also the company’s good reputation.”
2. What were you doing before you joined Home Instead?
“I was working for a different care company.”
3. What’s your favourite part of your role?
“Being able to build a good rapport and relationship with our clients, having the time to sit and enjoy a cup of tea and a chat with them, which gives them company and brightens their day.”
4. Can you share a special moment you’ve had with a client?
“We celebrated a client’s 106th birthday; another time, we decorated her home for Christmas, which gave her so much joy and happiness.”
5. What do you enjoy most about working for Home Instead compared to other workplaces?
“The office staff are so approachable and friendly. I like that we have the time to build those relationships with clients. I also like that we are always introduced to new clients by a member of the team before doing a visit with them.”
6. How has this job changed you personally?
“I understand the elderly better and have more compassion and patience for them.”
7. What would you say to someone thinking of becoming a Care Professional with Home Instead?
“Come and give it a go! Care is so much more than people imagine; it’s not just about personal care; it’s very rewarding! I like that we are not like a lot of other care companies because we do things differently, and we are an outstanding company to work for.”
8. How do you feel supported by your team/office staff?
“They are so approachable; there is always someone to talk to. They have a great understanding of how hard it is to juggle work, kids and life, and they make it easy and flexible to do both. We are like one big family.”
9. What’s something about being a Care Professional that people might not know?
“It’s not your normal 9-5. When you apply, you can discuss your availability, and then you all agree on a working schedule to suit your life.”
10. If you could describe your job in three words, what would they be?
“Rewarding, flexible, humbling.”
Every Care Professional has their own story, but the heart of the role is always the same: time, compassion, and support that changes lives.
