Home Instead Ilkley are saddened to hear of author, Wendy Mitchell’s passing. As a friend of Home Instead Ilkley, Wendy bravely shared her experience of being diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s at the age of 58 in her endearing and informative books ‘Somebody I Used To Know’ and ‘What I Wish People Knew About Dementia’.

In 2019, Wendy joined Home Instead Ilkley at the Ilkley Literature Festival to share the misconceptions people have about life with dementia and help people see dementia in a different perspective.

As a Sunday Times best selling author, Wendy’s honest and raw account of living with dementia highlighted her optimism on living positively with Alzheimer’s. In her final book ‘One Last Thing: How to live with the end in mind’, released in 2023, she aimed to open up our conversations surrounding death and end-of-life care.

Home Instead Ilkley would like to pass on their deepest condolences to Wendy’s family at this very difficult time.
