Dementia Action Week 2023
(15th-21st May)

Dementia Action Week, an annual campaign led by the Alzheimer’s Society, took place from 15th-21st May, raising awareness and encouraging action to support individuals living with dementia. This year, the focus was on dementia diagnosis, highlighting the importance of early detection and intervention. Throughout the week, various individuals and organizations across the UK joined forces to promote understanding, provide support, and improve the lives of those affected by this condition.
This year, Home Instead Harrogate, Ripon and Thirsk, took a proactive approach to raise both funds and awareness for Dementia UK. We organized a delightful cake stall, where people could indulge in delicious treats while contributing to a worthy cause. Additionally, Home Instead embraced a Star Wars theme, dressing up to add a touch of fun and creativity to the event.
In collaboration with Everyman Harrogate, Home Instead organized a dementia-friendly screening of the beloved movie “Mamma Mia.” These screenings create a safe and supportive environment for individuals with dementia and their families to enjoy a movie together. By making necessary adjustments to lighting, sound, and seating arrangements, they ensure that everyone can comfortably immerse themselves in the cinematic experience.

Dementia Action Week serves as an important reminder of the challenges faced by individuals with dementia and their families. It shines a spotlight on the importance of early diagnosis, understanding, and support. Home Instead’s active participation in this awareness campaign demonstrates their ongoing commitment to raising public awareness and improving the lives of those affected by dementia. Our dedication to providing specialized care and fostering meaningful relationships ensures that individuals with dementia can lead fulfilling lives while remaining in the comfort of their own homes.
As Sheena, the co-owner of Home Instead Harrogate, Ripon and Thirsk, expresses, “At Home Instead, we aim to deliver the best dementia home care in the UK. Offering relationship-based home care, we ensure that we understand our clients’ needs and match them with Care Professionals that we know they will bond with.”
Home Instead’s dedication to supporting individuals with dementia goes far beyond the Dementia Action Week.
