Farnham Dementia Support: UK Government benefits, allowances and helpful pages

Let’s start with government information and contacts before looking at national and local contacts.

The government website can help you with information and support for:

  • Attendance Allowance: A top-up benefit for anyone with a disability or long-term condition to support the cost of care.
  • Carer’s Allowance: A benefit for those caring for someone over 35 hours per week to support any income loss (based on your hours rather than the people you care for).

Both are eligibility-tested and can be applied through the  Department of Work and Pensions. You’ll also find helpful information on topics like council tax or rent assistance there.

Meet Kay, a Home Instead Farnham Client

Kay’s Challenge: When Confidence Disappears

Kay’s world had gradually shrunk. Depression had taken hold, leaving her reluctant to step outside except for essential medical appointments. Her social life had virtually disappeared. Kay needed more than practical support – she needed someone to help her rebuild her confidence, one gentle step at a time.

When our care professional, Angie, first met Kay, she understood this wasn’t just about daily tasks. Through patient encouragement and genuine praise, Angie helped Kay take those crucial first steps back into the world. The breakthrough came when, with Angie’s gentle support, Kay agreed to step into her garden one sunny spring day – a space unused for months. Not only did she go outside, but she stayed there for the entire visit, enjoying her lunch in the sunshine. The joy on Kay’s face (attached picture) says it all.

The Ripple Effect

Real success in home care isn’t just what happens during visits – it’s what clients feel empowered to do independently. Kay’s garden lunch was just the beginning. She felt confident enough to do something that would have seemed impossible before: she arranged to meet friends for lunch independently! When our care team followed up, Kay was so very happy. She had thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting with her friends and was already planning future outings.

Supporting Your Family’s Journey

If Kay’s story resonates with your family situation, you aren’t alone. Many older adults across Farnham, Farnborough, and Fleet face similar challenges with confidence and social isolation.

Our experienced care professionals understand the local community and know how to help clients rediscover the joy in everyday activities. Sometimes, all it takes is one caring professional and a sunny day in the garden to transform someone’s entire outlook on life.

How can you work with Home Instead Farnham?

We like to keep our process simple. That benefits you, and it benefits Mum or Dad, who will ultimately have to live with care. To ensure we keep things simple, we’ve distilled our process into 3 convenient steps.

Step 1: Call 01252 758 716 or email [email protected]

Our Care Managers are on hand to guide you through your options and help you make sense of what comes next for you and your loved one.

Step 2: Receive a no-obligation home visit

We like every client to meet us. It allows you to get a feel for us as a provider and ask questions that may have come up for you since our initial chat.

During our visit, we’ll also want to meet Mum and Dad, which is an important opportunity for them to meet us and ask their own questions while giving you the chance to see how we interact.

We’ll also offer you our complimentary falls assessment. This is our free report, which will help you identify potential fall risks in your home, which you can implement throughout Mum and Dad’s care journey whether you go ahead with us or not.

Step 3: Meet your Care Professionals

When you are happy to proceed, we will start care matching and organising a follow-up meeting to introduce you to your Care Professionals. It’ll be your first step into your care plan and a great way to meet (and have your say) who you’ll be working with.
