Join Home Instead Fareham and Gosport for dementia-friendly events this World Alzheimer’s Month. Enjoy activities like seated yoga, choir singing, and more.
With World Alzheimer’s Month in September, we want to take the chance to highlight the regular dementia-friendly events we offer to our local community at Home Instead Fareham and Gosport.
We have a number of activities running throughout the year designed to create a safe and welcoming environment for all older people, including those living with dementia.
“We’re passionate about creating a safe and inclusive environment for all older people and those living with dementia in our local community,” says Paul, owner of Home Instead Fareham and Gosport. “From our Friendship and Memory Cafes to our singing groups and exercise, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”
Our Friendship and Memory Cafes are some of our popular gatherings. Held at St Faith’s Parish Centre in Lee on Solent and the Community Centre in Wickham, these dementia-friendly groups are open to all older people and provide a supportive and enjoyable space for everyone. We have different activities including seated yoga, indoor curling, craft activities, and even desk-top horse racing—all topped off with the traditional tea and cake!
We’re also delighted to continue running our Singing to Remember Group at the Crofton Centre in Stubbington. Music and singing have well-recognised therapeutic benefits for people living with dementia, and this group enjoys singing along to old favourites, led by a professional singer. It’s always wonderful to see the joy that music brings to everyone’s faces!
In addition, we are proud to partner with the Dementia Choir Community Interest Company and Dementia Friendly Fareham and Gosport in hosting the Dementia Choir. This group meets monthly at the Crofton Centre and offers a different experience from Singing to Remember. The choir practises a set of songs and is building toward a public performance with other choirs in Hampshire later in 2024. Watching the dedication and progress of the choir members is truly inspiring!
We’re excited to announce the upcoming launch of our Love to Move sessions. This chair-based exercise programme, established by the British Gymnastics Foundation, is designed to improve and sustain mobility, coordination, and overall fitness. The exercises are set to music and offer a cheerful, relaxed setting for older adults to stay active and healthy. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for our latest updates.
All our community events are free of charge and held at accessible locations to ensure that everyone, regardless of mobility limitations, can join in and enjoy.
We warmly invite everyone—whether you’re looking to try something new, to make new friends, or simply enjoy a friendly chat over tea and cake—to join us at one of our local events. We look forward to welcoming you!
