Our Budleigh Ageing-Well Information Day 2023

Supporting the community through every age and stage...

Our eagerly anticipated Ageing-Well Information Day took place at Budleigh Salterton Public Hall on Friday 20th October, hosting over 30 local and national organisations and welcoming more than 300 visitors.

This previously annual event was back by popular demand, having been postponed due to the pandemic. Formerly known as the Older Persons Day, for 2023 the event has taken on a new identity, becoming the Ageing-Well Information Day, aiming to represent the fact that ‘ageing well’ matters at all stages of life. This meant that importantly, we have been able to include support relevant to those in mid-life too. From women’s health and menopause advice, to ‘age-friendly’ recruitment opportunities – our event hosted a variety of support services relevant to the younger members of our community…

Organised and sponsored by our team at Home Instead Exeter & East Devon and taking place over the course of the day, attendees were able to seek advice on a range of topics relevant to mid and later life, regarding health, exercise, sport, recruitment, safety, friendship, women’s health, mobility, therapy, wellbeing, and of course, home care and support. There was also the opportunity to receive an autumn flu vaccination and take advantage of a free blood pressure check, provided by our friends at Clarepharm Pharmacy, Exmouth.

With a wide variety of exhibitors and demonstrations from innovative organisations such as Strolll (who produce augmented reality products to support those living with neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease), feedback has been hugely positive from both the public and attending organisations alike.

Sharon Coombes, our Marketing & Community Engagement Manager, comments, “It’s really important to us that we support our community. It involves considerable time, planning and investment in order to bring such fantastic support service providers together, but it is been so rewarding. We really appreciate their participation.”

“To see the venue buzzing with both visitors and organisations was brilliant. We know that we will have collectively helped the community, and it’s great for us to network with our counterparts, so that we can all safely signpost in the future. We have had so many messages of thanks since and are looking forward to planning our 2024 event already.”

The Ageing-Well Information Day forms part of our ongoing programme of free community events and free workshops aimed at improving outcomes for those in later life, of which this was just one. Participants included local PCSO Chris Ball, who commented, “It was a great event on Friday, and we were pleased to be able to be a part of it. From a police perspective it was really successful.”

Our sincere thanks go to our network contacts who kindly supported our event and dedicated their time on the day, including:
