Rediscovering Purpose Through a Career in Care
At Home Instead Enfield, we often say that people from all walks of life bring something meaningful to care, and one of our Care Professionals is a perfect example of that.
Before stepping into the world of care, she spent an incredible 23 years working in a bank. It was a role she cherished, not just for the routine or structure, but because of the people.
“I really enjoyed my time there, especially looking out for our regular customers,” she said. “I loved offering a helping hand when they came into the branch.”
Her genuine warmth and compassion made a difference every day. In many ways, the care profession has simply given her a new place to do what she does best: help others feel seen, valued, and supported.
What did she enjoy most about her banking career? Without hesitation, she says it was always the human connection.
“Honestly, it was the people. I’ve always been a people person, and that’s what made the job so special to me. I built strong connections with many of our regulars. Sometimes, I knew I might be the only friendly face they’d see that day, so I always tried to go the extra mile.”
It’s this same caring approach that she’s carried into her role at Home Instead Enfield.
Like many of our Care Professionals, she didn’t come from a traditional care background. With Home Instead’s support and training, and a real sense of purpose, she has found new meaning in helping others at home.
“It’s been a big change, especially since I had no prior experience in care. But I’ve learned so much since joining the team. I feel confident in my role now, and I truly enjoy caring for others.”
For her, it’s the simple things that matter most, the chance to brighten someone’s morning, prepare a comforting meal, or just sit and have a chat with someone who might not have seen anyone else that day.
“Brightening someone’s day, caring for others, and doing those small things that make a big difference in people’s lives, that’s what I enjoy the most. I really feel like I’m making a difference and that deeply satisfies my soul.”
At Home Instead Enfield, we’re proud to support Care Professionals who bring life experience, kindness, and strong values to the role, whether they’ve worked in care before or not.
This inspiring journey reminds us that it’s never too late to start something meaningful. With the right support and a heart for helping others, a new chapter is always possible.
If you’re someone who enjoys spending time with people and making a positive difference, whether you’ve worked in care before or not, Home Instead Enfield is always looking for individuals who want to help older adults live well at home.
