Dartford, UK – Local home care company Home Instead Dartford is supporting the health and well-being of the local community with Singing & Music Making sessions. These sessions are in partnership with Music4Wellbeing and are held at St John’s Hall in Erith – the next being on Wednesday 31st May from 11:30-12:30pm. Every month last Wednesday, more sessions will run.

Christina Uppenkamp, owner of Home Instead Dartford, said: “We have just started running these sessions and they have been hugely successful. Local residents have really enjoyed the singing and interaction which has been a joy to watch.”

“As a care company specialising in care of the elderly, their health and well-being is paramount to us, these sessions are a great opportunity for socialisation and singing is great for your health!”

Studies have shown that singing is indeed good for your health – the breathing techniques used help with lung efficiency and singing helps keep our voices loud and vibrant, which is something that can deteriorate with degenerative diseases such as Parkinsons. As well as physical health, singing helps to alleviate depression and anxiety by releasing ‘feel good’ hormones and it gives a sense of purpose and achievement. Moreover, singing within a group promotes a feeling of well-being and belonging.

Dr Trish Vella-Burrows, Director of Music4Wellbeing says: “M4W enables people to come together, to relax and get to know each other and swap stories. This combined with fun, creative activities and musical enjoyment has helped many people to feel happier and cope better with their individual situation.”
