We provide companionship care at home to clients across Darlington, Northallerton and nearby parts of North Yorkshire and County Durham communities. Each companionship visit lasts at least an hour, so there’s always quality time to have a chat, help with shopping, go for a walk around South Park in Darlington, or visit Betty’s Tea Rooms in Northallerton together. We don’t wear uniforms either, so when taking a client out – whether that’s the Hippodrome Theatre or Bowes Museum – it feels relaxed, more like spending time with a friend than receiving a care visit. Many of our Care Professionals drive, and we can accompany clients to local appointments as part of our visits, which is especially helpful in the more rural areas of our community.

Every local Care Professional is fully employed by us, thoroughly background-checked with multiple references, and receives comprehensive training before their first visit. We look after our staff well – supporting them throughout their careers, investing in ongoing training, and celebrating work anniversaries – which is why so many stay with us for years. This matters because experienced Care Professionals understand how to do things with people rather than for them, promoting independence while keeping an eye on overall wellbeing. During companionship visits, our team has often spotted early signs of things like infections, mobility changes or memory concerns, alerting families before small worries become bigger problems.

We offer two types of home care: hourly care, where we visit at set times, or live-in care, where a carer resides in the home. Both are overseen by our care management team and delivered by compassionate Care Professionals. Each care package is made up of a unique mix of services to meet your needs.

One daughter shared on homecare.co.uk how her mum “was reluctant to accept help from a care professional” initially, but after careful introduction, “is very happy” now. Their Care Professional was “matched carefully to my mum’s needs, personality and even grew up in the area where my mum lives, so they have a lot in common and have become friends very quickly.” Another family wrote that their dad “regards his carers as friends” and appreciated the “continuity and unhurried help” that hour-long visits provide. A son whose father has dementia described how they “paired him with a gentleman who visits twice a week and they have a really good bond together, he is like a friend to my dad now.”

Our local team has over a decade of experience supporting families across Darlington, Northallerton, Richmond in North Yorkshire, Barnard Castle and surrounding villages. Being based locally in Darlington means we understand the area – from the local GPs and pharmacists to the best accessible walks in Richmond in North Yorkshire, or Catterick. Our director’s recognition with the Darlington Borough Council Stronger Communities Award reflects our commitment to the local area. Our Care Professionals receive thorough training covering not just practical skills but how to build meaningful relationships, spot subtle changes in health or mood, and adapt support as needs evolve. Our office team is always available if you need to adjust schedules, ask questions, or discuss how care is going. As your loved one’s needs change, we can adapt support quickly – whether that’s increasing visits, adding personal care, or simply being there to talk things through with you.

Staying connected to the community is central to what companionship care offers. Our Memory Lane Activity Cafe meets monthly at The Salvation Army in Darlington – a welcoming space with games, arts and crafts, music and good company where many of our Care Professionals help clients attend. We establish Take A Seat in Richmond in North Yorkshire, encouraging local businesses to offer resting points, and we created the WOW Guide – a directory of regular activities for older adults in Darlington. Through our annual Be A Santa gift collection and Director Robbie Jones’s involvement with Dementia Friendly Darlington and Healthwatch Darlington, we’re woven into local life. This means our Care Professionals can help clients stay engaged with the people and places they value.
