Tottenham Café Receives Haringey Loneliness Awareness Award!
We are delighted to announce that Tottenham Community Café – A Cupful of Memories, Home Instead Chingford’s dementia-friendly community group, has been recognised with a Haringey Loneliness Awareness Award 2026.
The award was presented by Mayor Dawn Barnes as part of Haringey’s annual Loneliness Awareness Week programme, which celebrates organisations, community groups and individuals who help tackle loneliness and social isolation across the borough through compassion, innovation and support.
This year’s theme, “Supporting People with Dementia and Their Carers”, highlights the importance of creating meaningful social connections and reducing loneliness for those affected by dementia. The café was recognised for providing a welcoming and supportive environment where people living with dementia and their carers can come together, build friendships, share experiences and enjoy engaging activities.
Receiving the award at Alexandra Palace was a proud moment for everyone involved in the group and reflects the positive impact that community connection can have on wellbeing and quality of life.
We would like to thank everyone who has helped our Tottenham Community Café – A Cupful of Memories, grow into the thriving community it is today. Together, we are making a real difference by reducing loneliness, encouraging connection and supporting people affected by dementia to live well in their community.

Virtual Dementia Bus Tour 2026 - HAYNES Dementia Hub
Home Instead Chingford was proud to partner with the Haynes Dementia Hub for a successful Virtual Dementia Bus event held in Hornsey on Friday 22 May during the Dementia Action Week. The event welcomed local residents, carers, healthcare professionals, community organisations and dementia advocates for a day dedicated to raising awareness, sharing knowledge and promoting dementia-friendly communities.
A key highlight of the day was the Virtual Dementia Bus Tour, delivered by Home Instead Chingford in partnership with Training2Care. The immersive experience allowed participants to gain a first-hand insight into some of the challenges faced by people living with dementia. Through a series of sensory exercises, visitors experienced how everyday tasks can become more difficult, helping to build greater understanding and empathy.
Alongside the bus tour, attendees enjoyed a programme of informative talks covering dementia research, community support and dementia-friendly initiatives. There were also information stalls, tours of the Haynes Dementia Hub, sewing activities, laughter yoga sessions, massage therapy, a community barbecue and live saxophone music throughout the day. A huge thank you to Clare Davies for connecting us with the Haynes Dementia Hub and making this opportunity possible.
The event created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, bringing people together to learn, connect and share experiences. It was encouraging to see so many individuals and organisations united by a common goal of improving awareness and support for those living with dementia.
A huge thank you to the Haynes Dementia Hub, all speakers, exhibitors, volunteers and attendees who helped make the day such a memorable success. Together, we continue to build more informed, compassionate and dementia-friendly communities.

Summer Wellbeing: Simple Steps to Stay Safe and Healthy in the Heat
Summer is a wonderful time to enjoy the outdoors, but warmer weather can bring additional health risks, especially for older adults. Here are some simple ways to stay safe and well:
- Stay hydrated – Drink plenty of water throughout the day and avoid becoming dehydrated.
- Keep cool – Wear light clothing, seek shade where possible, and avoid the midday heat.
- Eat well – Choose light meals and enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables that help keep you hydrated.
- Stay active – Gentle exercise such as walking or gardening can boost both physical and mental wellbeing. Try to be active during the cooler parts of the day.
- Stay connected – Regular contact with friends, family, and neighbours can help combat loneliness and support overall wellbeing.
- Look out for others – Check in on older relatives, friends, and neighbours during periods of hot weather.
By taking a few simple precautions, you can enjoy a healthy, happy, and safe summer.

Mighty Hike Achievement 💚
Our Care Manager, Leanne Read, recently completed the Macmillan Mighty Hike along the Norfolk Coast, walking 26 miles from Cromer to Holkham with her mum, Lorraine.
Together, they raised an incredible £1,032 for Macmillan Cancer Support and completed the challenge in 12 hours and 13 minutes.
A fantastic achievement for a wonderful cause. Well done, Leanne!

A Lovely Day Out with Our Care Professionals
Recently, two of our Care Professionals Grace and Gregory enjoyed a wonderful day out with one of our clients creating special memories and sharing plenty of smiles along the way. At Home Instead Chingford, we believe that care is about much more than practical support.
It’s about building meaningful relationships, encouraging independence, and helping our clients continue to enjoy the activities and experiences that matter most to them.
Days like these are a wonderful reminder of the positive impact companionship can have on wellbeing, confidence, and quality of life.
Thank you to our fantastic Care Professionals for going above and beyond to make the day so enjoyable.

Home Instead Chingford Supports Annual Charity Golf Day
Members of the Home Instead Chingford team recently enjoyed a fantastic day at the Home Instead Charities Annual Golf Day, held at The Oxfordshire Golf Hotel & Spa.
With glorious sunshine, great company, and plenty of friendly competition, the event brought together colleagues, supporters, and sponsors from across the Home Instead network to raise stet for Home Instead Charities.
This year’s Texas Scramble format created a wonderful team atmosphere, while a range of competitions kept everyone entertained throughout the day. For those not taking to the fairways, the spa facilities provided a relaxing alternative, making it an enjoyable day for all.
We are delighted to share that the event raised an incredible £8,345, with every penny going directly towards supporting local community causes and helping older people and vulnerable adults live well in their own communities.
A huge congratulations to Home Instead Charities, the event organisers, sponsors, volunteers, and everyone who took part in making the day such a success.
We were proud to represent Home Instead Chingford and support such a worthwhile cause. We are already looking forward to next year’s event!
