On 2nd August 2025, the Chingford Fire Station hosted an incredible Open Day that brought the entire community together and we at Home Instead Chingford were honoured to be a part of it.

From 11am to 3pm, families, children, and local residents gathered to enjoy a day full of excitement, education, and engagement. Organised by the amazing Joanne Sarsfield, the event was a true celebration of community spirit.

Why We Were There: Supporting Home Instead Charities

Our primary goal in attending the event was to raise awareness and funds for Home Instead Charities, whose mission is to end loneliness and isolation in ageing adults. At Home Instead Chingford, we believe every older adult deserves to feel happy, valued, and connected to their community.

With the help of generous donors and excited event-goers, we sold nearly 200 raffle tickets and gave away balloons in exchange for donations. These efforts go directly toward funding vital programs for the elderly in Chingford and surrounding areas.

What Made the Day So Special?

Fire Safety Meets Family Fun

Visitors had the opportunity to meet firefighters, Fire Dogs, and Fire Cadets, and even see an aerial appliance up close. Educational demos from the London Ambulance Service and the Education Team added an important safety dimension to the fun.

Family-Friendly Games & Activities

Our Home Instead stall was a major hit with children! From Connect 4 and Giant Jenga to the nostalgic Flip 50p game and Cylinder 360, we kept young minds engaged and smiling all day. Families queued up for face painting, ice cream, and fairground rides—creating lasting memories.

Sparking Conversations Around Care

Beyond the fun, we had some meaningful conversations with families about care needs for ageing loved ones. We also met individuals interested in care careers in Waltham Forest, many of whom were curious about working with Home Instead.

Making a Difference Through Community Fundraising

Events like these are more than just a day out. They are vital touchpoints for raising awareness and funds. With the help of the community, we continue our work to support ageing adults, reduce isolation, and build stronger local networks.
