Working Together to Support Our Community – Meeting with Age Concern Syston

Today, we had the pleasure of meeting with Age Concern in Syston to explore how we can work more closely together to support older people in our local community. It was a really positive and productive conversation, centred around a shared goal: ensuring that older adults in our area feel supported, connected, and able to live well at home.
During the meeting, we spoke openly about some of the challenges currently facing the ageing population. Like many organisations, Age Concern highlighted the ongoing impact of reduced funding and the increasing demand for services. With more people needing support than ever before, resources are being stretched, and finding sustainable ways to meet those needs is becoming increasingly difficult.
One particular challenge discussed was the struggle to recruit volunteer bus drivers. These volunteers play a vital role in helping older people attend day trips, social groups, and community activities, all of which are essential for reducing isolation and maintaining wellbeing. Without enough drivers, opportunities for connection can be limited, which can have a significant impact on individuals who rely on these services.
We also spoke about the broader picture of an ageing population, and the importance of working collaboratively to ensure that no one is left without the support they need. As demand continues to grow, partnerships between organisations like ours and Age Concern are more important than ever. At Home Instead, we are passionate about building strong relationships within our community. By working together, sharing knowledge, and supporting one another, we can help bridge gaps in care and create more opportunities for older people to remain independent, active, and engaged.
We’re really looking forward to developing this relationship further and exploring ways we can support each other, whether that’s through signposting, joint initiatives, or simply being there as a trusted network of support. A big thank you to the team at Age Concern Syston for taking the time to meet with us today. We’re excited about what we can achieve together and for the future plans we have brewing!
