Caring for Clients – and Their Companions

At Home Instead Charnwood, we believe home is more than just four walls. It’s where routines are familiar, memories are treasured, and often, where a beloved pet is part of the family.

For many of our clients, pets provide companionship, comfort, and a vital sense of purpose. That’s why we’re proud to include pet care as part of the personalised support we offer. Whether it’s feeding a cat, walking a dog, or simply checking in on a much-loved companion animal, our Care Professionals are here to help.

Why Pet Care Matters

While caring for a pet brings countless emotional benefits, it can also become more difficult with age or health concerns. Tasks like walking a dog, lifting heavy food bags, or cleaning out a litter tray can quickly become barriers to keeping a pet – even when the bond remains strong.

We’ve seen first-hand how small, practical forms of help can empower older adults to continue living independently with their pets by their side. It’s a simple but powerful way of supporting both wellbeing and independence.

How We Support Pet Care

Our Care Professionals are happy to assist with a wide range of pet-related tasks as part of a care visit, including:

  • Feeding and providing fresh water

  • Walking dogs or letting them out into the garden

  • Cleaning litter trays, hutches, or cages

  • Assisting with brushing or washing pets

  • Picking up pet food or supplies during errands

  • Booking or accompanying clients to vet appointments

  • Offering companionship and reassurance to pets, particularly when clients are unwell or hospitalised

This flexible support is tailored to each individual and their pet’s routine, ensuring continuity and compassion for all members of the household.

Supporting the Whole Household

Whether someone is recovering from surgery, managing a long-term condition, or facing challenges linked to ageing, we understand how important it is to maintain connection and normality. For many, that includes keeping a pet at home – not rehoming them or going without.

Our approach to care is always holistic. That means getting to know our clients, their stories, and the things that make each day meaningful – including the wagging tails, gentle purrs, and loyal paws that bring joy.
