Spring has come, the sun is slowly coming out and as the days get longer there are so many activities you can enjoy in Winchester this time of year. So take the time to embrace all Spring has to offer, enjoy the beauty of springtime with your senior friends or family members. Picnic in the Park

Why not visit the picturesque Winnall Moors Nature Reserve for a picnic? It’s a wheelchair-friendly treasure that allows you to enjoy the beauty of the countryside within Winchester. A great walking trail for ramblers who are mobile, but with lots of seating options. Look out for the deer or try and spot a Kingfisher on the reserve, you can even follow the water vole trail here or if you are young at heart or visiting with younger family members, take part in the adventure of Winnall Moors story here.

Ideal for a spring visit, when the reserve comes alive with a flourish of flowers such as the stunning Yellow Flag Iris. Enjoy your picnic to the background melody of the various birds that inhabit the reserve such as Reed Warblers, Sedge Warblers and Chiffchaffs.

Life Drawing at the Arc

Embrace your inner artist this Spring and get creative at The Arc, in the Winchester Library. All ages and abilities are welcome so if you’re the next Picasso or are still learning your charcoal from your pastels this forward-thinking artistic group is for you

“We have started to see various ages and skill sets, come together to enjoy the practice of drawing. We try our best to chat to everyone, to learn about what you’re up to” – Winchester Drawing Club.

A wonderful social activity where you can make new friends, learn new skills and enjoy one of the many activities the library has to offer. There is a concession discount making the price £8 (instead of the usual £10) but this includes paper, charcoal, drawing boards, tables and chairs (although those art enthusiasts are welcome to bring their own equipment should you prefer). The club runs on Sundays at 12 noon for two hours and you can check the dates here.

Get in the Garden

Spring is a great time to get back in the garden, if you don’t have a garden, you can create an indoor one. Why not visit the Hillier Garden Centre Winchester, located just outside the city. With a range of seasonal plants, garden decorations and homeware you could just enjoy browsing all the garden centre has to offer if you don’t have a green thumb.

Whilst at the garden centre, be sure to visit the Mulberry and Thyme Coffee Shop, with a range of homemade cakes, and delicious savoury options it’s an ideal meeting point for friends and families. They even have a recipe page here.

See a Show

Enjoy some theatre this spring at the Theatre Royal Winchester. As Oscar Wilde said, ‘I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.’

There is a host of shows, musicals and of course the Winchester Book Festival, exhibiting authors Alice Loxton and Mandy Hickson, on at the theatre this spring. Something to suit everyone. Get in the Kitchen

This Spring why not embrace local and seasonal produce with a cookery class? You could take a Barbecue Masterclass or learn some Woodfire cooking skills ready for the summer. Season Cookery School is located within the stunning grounds of Lainston House, just outside of Winchester. It has state-of-the-art facilities and is a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills in the kitchen.
