At Home Instead Cannock and Burntwood, we care about people, communities — and the world we all live in.
When we talk about care at Home Instead Cannock & Burntwood, we mean more than the visits we make or the hands we hold. We care about people, communities — and the world we all share. That’s why we’re proud to introduce our new environmental initiative with the amazing company, Make it Wild.
Starting May 2025, our office has pledged to offset 35 tonnes of CO₂ every year through tree planting, contributing directly to biodiversity and rewilding efforts at High Pasture Reserve in Burtersett, North Yorkshire.
“One of my first goals was to go paperless.”
For franchise owner and director Peta Mandleberg, sustainability has been a priority from day one.
“When I first bought this office, one of my first goals was to go paperless. I think we need to be as sustainable as we can and to minimise waste,” she explains.
It’s more than just good intentions. Using a CO₂ calculator, the team measured the total carbon footprint of their operations — from carer mileage to energy use — and determined how many trees would be needed to balance it out. The result? A living, growing promise.
Why tree planting matters
Trees absorb carbon dioxide, produce oxygen, and create essential habitats for wildlife. As they grow, they improve soil, filter water, and reduce flooding. They even communicate underground through fungal networks — in a way, they form a caring community of their own!
A living tribute to those we care for
This initiative isn’t just about carbon — it’s about care as well.
“We’re planning to visit the site this winter and help with tree planting,” says Peta. “And we’ll be dedicating some of those trees to the memory of clients who’ve passed away, letting their families know we’ve planted a tree in their honour.”
We’re so thrilled that very tree planted will be a legacy that not only gives back to nature, but the people who we have cared for.
This is just one step in our ongoing commitment to reduce our environmental impact while delivering the highest standard of care. Because to truly care — for people, for place, for planet — we believe you have to lead by example.
