Get in touch Why Stoma Care may be right for you
We know that finding the right place that provides the right care for you can be tough, especially when our local QEQM hospital is over capacity. We’ve introduced Stoma Care and other complex care needs to keep our beloved seniors in our community at home where they feel the most comfort. Instead of needing to go elsewhere for complex needs, Home Instead Broadstairs, Ramsgate & Margate bring it to your home.
This means that QEQM can focus on emergency needs far more than day-to-day care. Kirra is in partnership with all our local GP’s within Thanet, and handles ordering Stoma bags if required and ensuring they are delivered on time. We handle all your needs and under good care with Home Instead.

Home Instead have been looking after my dad for a few years. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for professionalism, along with respecting the clients wishes, and their dignity. The carers are amazing and my dad loves their visits. They are definitely very aware of the clients health concerns and flag up any concerns immediately. All of the above let’s me have peace of mind knowing that he is being so well cared for!

You will likely have been advised at the time of your surgery whether it would be a temporary measure or a permanent one. Stoma reversal is a common procedure for certain types of stoma, with some unable to be reversed. Many people do feel having a stoma often significantly improves quality of life due to the reduction or removal of the symptoms which lead to the surgery. Any stoma care will last only as long as it is required.
- How will a stoma bag affect my life?
While initially it may take some getting used to, adjusting to living with your stoma bag can minimise disruptions and improve your quality of life. Stoma care can help you recover your independence after surgery so that you can continue doing the things you love.
- Can I bathe with a stoma?
Yes, it’s fine to have a bath or shower with a stoma, either with your stoma bag on or off. You may prefer having your bag on during a bath just in case your stoma is active and any leaks occur.
- Will my stoma smell?
Many people are concerned that others will notice a smell from a stoma, but there should only ever be an odour from your stoma when your Care Professional is changing or emptying your bag. If there’s an unpleasant smell while the bag is in place, this might mean there is a leak, or the bag may be faulty. If you’re worried about odours from your stoma bag, your clinical team or your Care Professional will be able to give you help and advice.
