Accessible Green Spaces in North Bristol

One local treasure is The Downs, gifted to the city, close by to us in the North of the city, and a place where we enjoy taking clients for a stroll. It’s accessible, and because there’s always a place to park the car, we can walk as much or as little as our clients would like to. Walking over The Downs to reach the Seawalls area is an achievement, so it’s ideal to reward ourselves with an ice cream!

There’s a view of the Gorge, we often spot peregrine falcons soaring high above, and from some points you can see the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Up by the Water tower there is a very popular and charming cafe, where we can pause for a drink together, chatting inside or enjoying the sun, weather permitting. Not far away we help support a monthly gathering called Welcome Wednesdays, at The Beehive on the last Wednesday of every month (Events – Bristol Dementia Action Alliance (bdaa.org.uk)) and Film Clubs at St Peter’s, Henleaze on the last Monday of every month or at Christ Church Downend church hall on the third Monday of each month, both at 2pm.

Maintaining Hobbies and Interests for Older Adults

We are always keen to ensure that our home care clients can continue to enjoy their hobbies and interests. For our clients who enjoy a bit of culture and some music, St. George’s, Brandon Hill, off Park Street is one of our favourite local spots. Our clients enjoy attending the lunchtime concerts here, with classical music, or the lively notes of jazz, within sessions perfectly timed for under an hour, making a perfect way to lift our spirits! Bristol Cathedral has had lunchtime concerts too, and when they do we enjoy this incredible backdrop that can evoke many memories – the forty-minute concerts offer an open invitation to all, for a daytime escape into the harmony of music.

For gardening enthusiasts amongst our clients, our Care Professionals know that Almondsbury Garden Centre is always a hit and a lovely destination for an afternoon out. Plants and flowers galore, and the all important pit stop at the cafe for a coffee and a slice of scrumptious cake is a treat. And let’s not forget the aficionados of history and aviation! The Concorde Museum in Filton opens its doors to a world of discovery, particularly for clients who may share a connection to the aviation industry in the past.
