As a family, we are very pleased and grateful for the care provided to our mum. Carers have been carefully matched to my mum’s needs and have been consistently there for her. It is a relief knowing that we can trust the carers and that they have not been changed. We can choose our times, and we have never been let down on punctuality. So many people say that they never know what time carers are going to turn up, but we have never had that problem. We are extremely happy with the care and have always been listened to. I would not hesitate to recommend this agency.

The caregivers are a lifeline to my Uncle and myself. All the caregivers seem to genuinely care for the service user. I feel confident knowing they visit daily and will contact and feedback any concerns or information I need to know. This is so important due to my Uncle hearing loss we are unable to contact him on the phone and not living nearby we can’t just pop in. The client family portal is great for keeping up to date with progress. My Uncle recently lost his pet bird Perky that was at least 15-years-old. The caregiver was compassionate and buried Perky in the garden for my Uncle. The management keeps me updated on any changes including if new caregivers will be going and also complete regular reviews with the family to ensure everyone is happy.

Mum has Alzheimer’s, and we wanted to keep her in her own home for as long as possible; so Home Instead was the ideal solution. The staff are all friendly and very professional. We have two carers who cover Mum’s care over the week. Initially Mum was unsure about having anyone come into her home to help, but she soon settled down and seems to enjoy their company each day. It is a great comfort for us to know she is having a good meal each day, is taking her medication, and household chores are being undertaken. Mum’s hearing is not good, so it is not possible to have a telephone conversation with her, so it is reassuring to read the daily visit reports and know that all is well. If anything is wrong, they make contact immediately, and we decide the best course of action to take for Mum.
Sheelagh A

The carers are really good with Dad as they have to put up with him quite often having no clothes on and some very unpleasant mess to clean up at times, but they do it all with good humour and thoroughness.
Recently I had to give up my three visits a week at short notice to look after my husband and also self isolate due to the covid virus. The office staff could not have been more helpful in covering for me until we all get over this horrible time, and I can restart my visits. The carers who come to Dads are very caring and look after him as if he was one of their family.
Gloria L

Home Instead caregivers have done a wonderful job in caring and supporting my mum over the last few months. Mum had an operation so they had to support the six to eight weeks recovery period which required gradual changes to the care/support needed as the weeks went on. Recovery went well then Mum had a small fall which meant she lost confidence, the caregivers have gradually built her confidence up. Overall Home Instead are doing a great job and has taken the pressure off me during these unusual times, I wouldn’t hesitate to refer them to others.
Lynne

My grandmother has been having Home Instead for several years and they have been very flexible when she has required more and less care due to illness. She is 93 years old and is looking so well and I put this down to the care and kindness that she receives from the caregivers that visit her daily.
Lisa H

My mother has been with Home Instead for a few years now and has been fortunate to have had the same carers for the last two years with the occasional stand-in when her regular carers are not available. Mum has been very satisfied with them all and naturally has become friends with her regular carers who do go the extra mile for her. Mum has great respect and trust in her carers which gives me peace of mind since I do live quite a distance from her. Mum could not live in her own home without the carers and looks forward to their visits. I have also got to know the carers during my regular visits and I have found them to be very professional, obliging and approachable.
Michael S

Carers are very nice, competent and have a good work ethic. They arrive on time and stay the allotted time and always consult with my mother regarding the tasks and help she requires. She feels very comfortable with her carers and because she knows the same members of staff will be attending she is less anxious than if different people keep turning up, as happens with many other agencies. Also, the management staff have been attentive and responsive in providing a service that suits my mother’s needs. I have no reservation in recommending Home Instead to others.
Peter A

I have one main carer and 3 other carers all who have been excellent in providing my lunches, and when necessary personal care as well as helping with duties around the home. In addition to what they do for me, they have all been good company which is important to me as I am often alone all day while my wife is away working. The office staff have been very accommodating of any changes in the care schedule I might request and have informed me if there are any changes from their end due to sickness or holidays etc.
Martyn C

Both my mother and myself are very pleased with the support from the Home Instead CareGivers. They are punctual, friendly and keen to help my mother live as independent a life as possible. The agency has worked very hard to ensure that continuity of care is provided by a small team of CareGivers. Although not cheap, the standard of care is excellent.
P W (Son of Client)

For the past 3 years, Home Instead have enabled Mum to maintain an independent life in her own home. Her team of CareGivers has remained remarkably constant; all are professional in their outlook and provide mum with friendly companionship while taking care of her needs. The Management Team and methodology at Home Instead inspires confidence that the company will provide a measurably high standard of care into the future.
Adrian W

All the carers have been very professional, very caring and friendly. I feel very happy and reassured they are there every day.
P S (Daughter-in-law of Client)

The care staff are reliable, punctual and provide a good level of personal care. They are kind and understanding. The office staff communicate well and are helpful with any problems.
I G (Son of Client)

First class service provided by mature staff who genuinely seem to care for and have the interests of their clients and family at the forefront, who are in turn managed by a group of professional staff.
My father wouldn’t manage without them and probably wouldn’t wish to. He always looks forward to their arrival.
James M

I have found this an excellent service. The carer is always on time and very sensitive to changing situations and moods of the client. Although the main request for help was for personal care, this is sometimes found to be impossible on account of the client being unable or reluctant to respond. In this case, a flexible approach and willingness to adapt to whatever task needs assistance has always been given in a very friendly and pleasant manner. The carer has also been alert to changes in the physical condition of the client, such as detecting urine infection, potential sores, painful areas etc which has been much appreciated.
Hilary F (Sister of Client)

Home Instead Senior Care stepped in immediately to provide additional care when my mother had a fall earlier in the year and I can’t thank them enough for helping the family through a very difficult period with their continuing support mum remains in her own home where she wants to be and they treat her with respect and courtesy.
Janice R

I have been in the care of Home Instead for about two years at two or three different residences. My impression of their services is very favourable indeed. Their carers are well equipped with the base skills necessary for their work but they also had a wide ‘hinterland’ of their experience, which makes them interesting and, in fact, fun to be with. Recent careers for me have included a retired banker from the Far East and someone with immense local knowledge of Hampshire.
Colin M (Client)

We are very impressed with the efficiency of the service and the care you take in every aspect. Whenever I need to contact Home Instead, the people deal with the issue quickly and in a friendly manner. We have a fantastic carer whose visits are the highlight of our mum’s week.
I have recommended Home Instead to my husband and he and his parents met with a manager from another branch a couple of days ago, with a view to having help in their home
S T (Daughter of Client)

Home instead offered the support we required for my mum. All the staff are friendly, caring , and understanding of our position and have delivered an excellent service. My mum looks forward to her visits from her “ ladies” and has a lovely friendly relationship with them. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this service to anyone.
C G

Home Instead continue to provide a high-quality support package for my care needs. The caregivers and office support team make the world of difference to help me on a daily basis.
Lyn B

We were really pleased with the standard of care provided by our mum’s carers over the last four years. They were a great support to our mum and also to us during this time. They particularly went above and beyond our expectations when our mum was recently discharged from the hospital. They were more than just carers to our mum and really became friends to her as well.
Gill C (Daughter of Client)

My wife was treated with dignity and patience at all times by your carers who became almost family members. The carers at all times dealt with their tasks with great professional care and good humour.
My family and I were very grateful for the continual interest your carers showed in looking after her.
Michael F (Husband of Client)

Home Instead has recently provided a fantastic service to my mother, who needed home care because of deteriorating Alzheimer’s. From the moment of contact, they were efficient and caring, assessing needs and quickly organising home visits whilst staying in good contact via the app and phone calls. Mum’s carers were kind and helpful, whilst being a much-needed company. The whole team were also very understanding and knowledgeable in dealing with dementia as well as being compassionate to quickly changing health. A huge thank you to you all for your support over a very difficult six months.
C G (Daughter of Client)

It was nice to have help and care in my own home after my operation. I looked forward to the company each day (Monday – Friday). Six weeks soon passed and I would use them again, when needed.
C S (Client)

Home Instead (Bournemouth) have been a godsend for me as I live 300 miles away from my dad, who was struggling on his own.
I have nothing but praise for all their staff, from the office to the carers. Nothing was ever too much trouble and the communication with me was fabulous. Thank you, especially to Dads favourite.
Jan R (Daughter of Client)

My dad received excellent quality care over the years from Home Instead. As well as being so helpful and supportive to my dad, the carers were always so very kind and for this I will always be so grateful.
S J (Daughter of Client)

Home Instead (Bournemouth) has provided a very reliable and exceptional service during the two years they looked after my mum. We have so appreciated Home Iinstead. They made our move to the area so seamless and worry free. They were able to pick up caring for Mum straight away at a high standard. They have all worked so hard to provide the very best care for Mum, despite her challenging behavioural eccentricities! They were able to adapt seamlessly when needed. Communication was excellent always paying attention to detail.
I would have no hesitation recommending Home Instead to anyone as a ‘rolls Royce’ option in the area. Thank you so much for your patience and kindness.
Tina S (Daughter of Client)

Home Instead (Bournemouth) were a massive help not only to my parents but myself. Given I live in Australia trying to look after two ageing parents remotely was becoming harder and harder. The team from Home Instead were fantastic in terms of their professionalism and also in the way they communicated with myself. Sadly my fathers health deteriorated rapidly making things very difficult but the team remained flexible and very helpful. I cannot recommend the team from Home Instead (Bournemouth) highly enough. I am very grateful for everything they did for my parents.

Search here if you cannot see your town or postcode - What is domiciliary care?
Domiciliary care, also known as home care, refers to a range of supportive services provided to individuals who require assistance with daily activities but wish to remain in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes. This type of care is tailored to the specific needs of each person and can include tasks such as personal assistance, meal preparation, companionship, and even light housekeeping. Domiciliary care allows the elderly to maintain a degree of independence while receiving the necessary support to lead a fulfilling and safe life at home, with peace of mind for their loved ones knowing that they have support.
Discover More - Why choose domiciliary care?
Domiciliary care allows elderly people to remain at home in a familiar environment – boosting wellbeing and happiness – while promoting independence and autonomy, providing personalised and family-involved care, being cost-effective compared to institutional options like care homes, reducing lifestyle disruption and helping to maintain routines. All these things can contribute to better emotional and mental wellbeing, but also provide peace of mind to elderly individuals and their families. The decision to opt for domiciliary care depends on individual needs and circumstances, with many of the advantages stemming from its tailored, in-home support.
- How does domiciliary care help?
Domiciliary care provides valuable support to elderly people by offering a range of services tailored to their needs that are delivered within the comfort of their own homes. These services can include assistance with daily activities such as personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, and medication management. Care Professionals can aid in meal preparation, ensure proper nutrition, and help with mobility. Companionship and social interaction are also crucial components, addressing feelings of isolation and loneliness.
It is also a great way to enhance the safety of elderly people at home, reducing the risk of falls and accidents through monitoring and support. Household tasks like cleaning and laundry can be managed too, alleviating more stress. All of these types of help together means that domiciliary care promotes independence, enhances quality of life, and provides a sense of well-being and security for elderly people who may have difficulty managing on their own.
- How much is domiciliary care?
The cost of domiciliary care can vary widely depending on factors such as the level of care needed, the number of hours of care required, the geographic location, and the specific services provided. Generally, domiciliary care costs are broken down into hourly rates, and the total expense can accumulate over time. Domiciliary care can often be more affordable than moving to a care facility, but it’s essential to research and understand the costs of services covered by the fees to make the right choices for yourself or your loved ones.
- Is domiciliary care good value/cost effective?
Domiciliary care can often provide very good value and be highly cost-effective, especially when compared to the expenses associated with moving into a care home or similar residential facility. While the exact costs depend on individual needs and location, receiving personalised care in the comfort of home can be more affordable and efficient in terms of both financial investment and comparative wellbeing. Having care and support delivered at home allows seniors to maintain their independence, avoid the costs associated with residential care, and receive tailored assistance that can enhance their quality of life. However, it’s important to thoroughly assess the specific services, rates, and available funding options to make an informed decision about the cost-effectiveness of domiciliary care for your specific situation.
- How is domiciliary care funded?
Domiciliary care can be funded through several avenues. Private payments allow individuals and/or their families to cover costs directly, while long-term care insurance policies may also provide coverage to help. Government support is available through programs like the National Health Service (NHS) and local authorities, which offer assistance based on care needs and financial circumstances. Veterans may access funding through veterans’ benefits, and charitable organisations or grants can provide additional financial aid. Both personal budgets and direct payments are generally offered by local authorities, giving people more direct control over how to fund care services. Navigating these funding options usually entails meeting eligibility criteria, and selecting the best-suited avenues for the financial and care requirements you or your loved ones have.
- Who might use a domiciliary care service?
Domiciliary care services are sought by all kinds of people who require support to maintain their independence and wellbeing as they age, or to help ease back into a routine at home after surgery or in the case of long term illness. Family caregivers seeking respite and support also often welcome at-home support to help with managing long term care, and it can be highly beneficial to elderly people who may feel isolated or lonely, as Care Professionals provide companionship and social interaction. Anyone in need of personalised assistance and support with daily activities within the comfort of their own home can benefit from some form of domiciliary care.
- What is the role of a domiciliary care worker?
A domiciliary care worker’s role involves providing tailored support to seniors within their homes. Workers assist with personal care tasks like bathing and grooming, aid in mobility, prepare nutritious meals, offer companionship, manage medications, perform light housekeeping, provide transportation, and monitor health conditions. Their responsibilities extend to emotional support, safety awareness, documentation, and collaboration with healthcare professionals. By promoting independence and well-being, Care Professionals providing domiciliary care play a crucial role in helping the elderly to maintain a comfortable and fulfilling lifestyle within their own homes rather than needing to be taken into a residential facility.
- What is the difference between domiciliary care and residential care?
Domiciliary care, or home care, offers personalised support within an individual’s own residence, encompassing tasks like personal care and companionship. It allows seniors to remain at home while receiving the necessary assistance. In contrast, residential care involves relocating individuals to specialised facilities such as assisted living or nursing homes, where they receive around-the-clock care, including help with personal needs, meals, and medical requirements. The decision between these options hinges on someone’s particular care needs and their preference for staying at home or transitioning to a residential care facility.
- What domiciliary care services can you provide?
At Home Instead, we provide a comprehensive range of domiciliary care services designed to help elderly adults maintain their independence and comfort within their own homes. Our offerings vary by location but typically include essential services such as companionship, where our Care Professionals engage in conversations, games, and outings, and provide emotional support. Personal care services encompass assistance with daily activities like bathing, grooming, and mobility support. Day care services offer companionship and engagement during the day, while our home help and housekeeping assistance ensure a clean and organised living environment. Overnight care, respite care, and other specialised services are available to meet unique needs. Contact your local Home Instead office to learn more about our tailored domiciliary care options.
