The Pocklington Arts Centre is a true community hub, offering a diverse programme of events that are accessible and welcoming to older people.

One of its standout offerings is the Community Café, where visitors can enjoy a relaxed environment, free refreshments and gentle activities such as crafts, games and conversation. These sessions are ideal for combating loneliness and building friendships.

For people living with dementia, the Arts Centre also runs “Singing for Fun” sessions, designed to be inclusive and uplifting. Music-based activities are widely recognised for helping to stimulate memory, improve mood and encourage social interaction making them particularly valuable for those living with dementia.

Reminiscence and Social Groups in Pocklington

The Pocela Centre hosts regular reminiscence sessions, offering a safe and supportive space for older adults to share memories and stories. These groups can be especially beneficial for individuals experiencing memory loss, helping to maintain cognitive function and emotional wellbeing.

In addition, community-led groups and local organisations frequently host meet-ups, coffee mornings and gentle activity sessions, ensuring there is always something to look forward to.

Parkinson’s Support and Activities in Pocklington

There is also growing local support for people living with Parkinson’s, thanks to partnerships with Parkinson’s UK and community organisations.

At The Feathers Hotel, regular Parkinson’s café-style meet-ups provide a welcoming space for people living with Parkinson’s, along with their families and carers. These sessions offer the chance to share experiences, access advice and build supportive friendships with others facing similar challenges.

Meanwhile, at East Riding Leisure Francis Scaife, a weekly Parkinson’s activity group has been established. These sessions combine gentle, seated exercise with social activities such as games and group interaction, helping participants improve both physical and mental wellbeing.

The leisure centre itself is a fully accessible community facility with a gym, swimming pool and a wide range of classes and activities, making it an excellent venue for inclusive health and wellbeing programmes.
