Age UK Barnet and Home Instead Barnet hosted a Falls Awareness Event at the Meritage Centre in Hendon. The event focussed on foot care as one of the issues to prevent falls amongst older people. We had a great line-up of speakers including Podiatrist  Luis Marques, from Central London Community Healthcare, Occupational Therapist Sylvia Salter from Finchley Memorial Falls Clinic, Head of Audiology, Keith Dunmore from Barnet and Chase Farm Hospital, Registered Dietitian Vivienne Vald and Physiotherapist  Rebecca Garrord from Physio Comes to you. In addition we had demonstrations from Richard Selby and Members of the Chipping Barnet Taichi Group, Deborah Cura from Age UK Barnet had everybody exercising, Meri Bartley from Flamingos Dancing did a great Zumba demo and the Barnet Asian Older Peoples Association showed us traditional Indian Dancing.

Information and advice stalls were provided by Age UK Barnet, Alzheimer’s Society, Barnet Social Services, Central Park Eyecare, Finchley Memorial Falls Clinic, The Good Care Group, Home Instead Senior Care Barnet, Physio Comes to You, Scott-Moncrieff & Associates Solicitors for the Elderly, and the Stroke Association. Special thanks to Shailja Kumar from the Stroke Association who walked for miles (parking problems!) to provide blood pressure tests.

After the talks and demos we all settled down to lunch. I would like to thank all of our speakers, demonstrators, and stall holders for contributing to a really fun day.  We are now looking forward to our next event in September.
