The Sale Male Voice Choir: Singing Together for Community and Joy

The Sale Male Voice Choir is a small but spirited group of 16 passionate singers who share a love for music and community. As a proud member of the National Association of Choirs, the choir performs at charity fundraisers and community concerts across Trafford and beyond, using their voices to uplift and inspire.

Under the expert guidance of David, their talented conductor and a graduate of the Royal College of Music, the choir performs a wide range of musical genres — from swing and jazz to well-loved songs from the musicals. Their repertoire may be varied, but their goal remains the same: to bring people together through music.

The choir rehearses every Thursday from 2pm to 4pm at Timperley Congregational Church and they’re always looking to welcome new members. You don’t need to have sung in a choir before — just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to learn! Their rehearsals are as much about community and enjoyment as they are about musical precision.

The History and Joy of Male Voice Choirs

Male voice choirs have a rich heritage in the UK, particularly in Wales and northern England. Originally rooted in working-class communities, choirs offered an uplifting and affordable social activity for miners, factory workers, and tradesmen, many of whom found camaraderie and creative expression through weekly rehearsals and local concerts.

Today, choirs like the Sale Male Voice Choir continue that tradition — offering not just music, but friendship, emotional wellbeing, and purpose. Singing in a group has been shown to improve lung function, reduce stress, enhance memory, and boost mood. It’s no wonder so many people say choir rehearsals are the highlight of their week.

Whether you’re an experienced singer or a complete beginner, there’s something incredibly special about singing together in harmony — and contributing to something bigger than yourself.
