Respite Care at Home: Support When You Need It Most

Sometimes, a little extra support can make all the difference.
Respite care offers short-term, flexible support at home—whether for a few hours, overnight, or with a Care Professional living in. It can be planned ahead or arranged quickly, giving reassurance during recovery, when routines change, or when a family carer needs time to rest and recharge.
For many people, staying at home in familiar surroundings helps them feel more confident, comfortable, and themselves. It’s often a positive alternative to a temporary care home stay—keeping life feeling settled at a time when things might feel uncertain.
At Home Instead, we take time to understand what matters most to you. Your routines, your preferences, and the little details that make a day feel right. From personal care and preparing meals to help with medication, mobility, or getting out and about, everything is shaped around you—so life can carry on in a way that feels natural and familiar.

Real Stories: Care That Adapts Around You
Every respite journey is different. What stays the same is our focus on providing thoughtful, responsive care that brings reassurance to both clients and their families.
Barbara’s story – supporting recovery at home
Barbara planned a short period of live-in care following her knee operation, wanting to recover in the comfort of her own home. Her support was built around her usual routine, helping with personal care, meals, and mobility.
When her recovery needed a little more support than expected, her Care Professional quickly noticed changes and raised concerns. We worked closely with her GP and healthcare teams to make sure she was safe and well, arranging further support straight away.
As Barbara began to regain her strength, we coordinated follow-on visits three times a day, gradually reducing these as her confidence and independence returned—always at a pace that felt right for her. Her care continues to adapt as she recovers, with a focus on helping her stay independent at home.

Josie’s story – peace of mind for the whole family
Josie already had regular daytime support in place when her son began planning a family holiday. Like many families, he wanted to feel confident that everything would be safe and settled while he was away.
We arranged a short period of live-in care to support Josie at home. When she was unexpectedly admitted to hospital, our team helped ensure a smooth and supported discharge, allowing her to return home safely with the right care in place.
Throughout the week, Josie was supported by a consistent Care Professional, helping her feel comfortable and reassured in familiar surroundings.
For her son, knowing his mum was in safe hands meant he could fully relax and enjoy time away with his family. It’s also given them the confidence to plan future breaks, knowing there’s a trusted, professional team in place to coordinate care at home.
