Enjoy live music, great company, and cake at The Avenue Methodist Church’s Monthly Matinees — a long-standing Sale tradition that’s all about community and connection.
Fourteen years ago, Cynthia Fowler had a vision — to bring the joy of live music closer to her local community. Inspired by her involvement with the Alma Choir and her church choir, she launched Monthly Matinees at The Avenue Methodist Church, Sale.
Since then, these Friday afternoon concerts have become a much-loved part of the local calendar. Taking place on one Friday most months at 2:30pm, they welcome residents of all ages to enjoy uplifting performances in a friendly and relaxed setting.
Cynthia’s extensive musical connections help her curate an evolving programme of talented acts — from harpists and ukulele groups to pianists and more. Performers often reach out to her directly, keen to share their music with such an appreciative audience. With a rotating schedule over a 24-month cycle, the variety ensures something new for returning guests every time.
Following each performance, guests are treated to tea, coffee, and cake, offering time to socialise and connect. The event is supported by dedicated volunteers Tony and Sally, and together they help make each afternoon warm, welcoming, and well-loved.
All this joy and community spirit is available for just £5 per session — a small price for such a rich and uplifting experience.
