With the New Year comes New Year’s resolutions, and what better one to make in 2016 than keeping fit  and healthy as you can whilst making new friends?

For seniors in our community there is so much to do in terms of fitness and socialising combined, as Liz from the Home Instead Altrincham office has been discovering!

One of the groups Liz popped into last Wednesday was a Healthy Hips and Hearts class held at The Larkhill Centre in Timperley.

Currently listed in Home Instead’s WoW (What’s on Where) Guide for Altrincham this is a weekly class held from 12noon to 1.30pm and welcomes all seniors of retired age and above.  The exercise is run by Kath and the important tea /refreshment break is organised by Joan; both lovely ladies who are super friendly and approachable.  It is an extremely popular class, attracting over 35 people each week, and offers gentle exercise for all abilities with the important social element to chat to new friends.  (Our accompanying photo is of another friendly Healthy Hips and Hearts group from The Avenue Methodist Church in Sale, which runs on a Wednesday morning, with Maxine leading the class).

Within the Sale, Timperley and Altrincham areas there are so many other fitness opportunities available every day of the week and something to suit all tastes.  A few to mention include;

Monday: Keep Fit, Salvation Army (Ashton on Mersey) weekly @ 1.30pm

Tuesday: Over 60’s Movement to Music, St Anne’s Church Hall (Sale Moor) weekly @ 10am

Wednesday: Yoga, Sale Leisure Centre (Sale) weekly @ 10.45am

Thursday: Tea Dance, Sale Waterside Centre, monthly (2nd Thursday of the month) @ 1.30pm

Friday: Stay Active classes, Altrincham Leisure Centre, weekly from 10am

Saturday: Tea Dance, St Paul’s Church Hall (Sale) weekly @ 2pm

Sunday: Sequence Dancing, Larkhill Centre Timperley) weekly @ 8pm

All of the above groups encourage people to go along and try them at any time; contact numbers are found on the WoW Guides.
