Alan Savage, owner of Home Instead, understands the importance of social interaction and is encouraging local elderly residents to maintain friendships and positive social interactions by attending one of the social clubs listed in the WOW guide.
Alan says, “Loneliness and social isolation can impact gravely on wellbeing and quality of life, with demonstrable negative health effects. Being lonely has a significant and lasting negative effect on blood pressure. It is also associated with depression and higher rates of mortality.
He continues, “Social interaction helps keep your brain from getting rusty, but it's most effective when coupled with an overall healthy lifestyle, including a nutritious diet and physical activity. There are so many offerings when it comes to social clubs, including Bingo, Bridge, Craft Groups, and Knit and Natter groups.”
Local groups have been delighted to see their coffee mornings, lunch clubs, exercise classes, social groups and support groups publicised in the WOW Guide, and they all look forward to welcoming new members to their groups.
