“Safe and Well” Fire Safety Care for seniors in their own Home

Caring for vulnerable seniors in our local area of Altrincham and Sale

Home Instead Senior Care Altrincham and Sale will now be able to refer clients to Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service’s (GMFRS) ‘Safe & Well’ service having attended an informative and interesting training session with Andy Pownall from GMFRS.

Home Instead’s Team Leaders Karen, Laura, Kim and Alan found out all about the “Safe & Well” service given to householders. Focusing on informing vulnerable elderly people, with comprehensive advice on home safety issues.  This includes all the areas you would expect on fire safety (including the fitting of smoke detectors) but also on home security and wellbeing.  Those that are identified as being at risk of falls are referred to the Trafford Falls Risk Assessment Team and those that are experiencing loneliness are recommended to GMFRS’s new Community Wellbeing Service (CWS).

CWS volunteers, who have been recruited and trained by the GMFRS, visit vulnerable people in their own home on up to 4 occasions to discuss support needs, practical solutions and referring them to other agencies.  This may include encouraging people to attend local community activities such as those listed in Home Instead’s What’s on Where (WOW) guide (https://www.homeinstead.co.uk/altrincham/Information_and_Resources.do) or using care, companionship and home help services such as those provided by Home Instead.

Home Instead’s Team Leaders, as pictured, undertake a comprehensive risk assessment during their care consultations, however, will be recommending the Safe & Well Service for more detailed safety advice.

If anyone wishes to directly contact the GMFRS service for a Safe & Well visit or because they want to become a Community Wellbeing Service volunteer, then please call 0800 555 815.
