A new edition of a guide that encourages local retired and elderly people to enjoy activities in their local community has been launched by local Trafford resident and the owner of Home Instead Senior Care in Sale & Altrincham, Alan Savage.

The new WOW (What’s on Where) guides for Sale and Altrincham each lists over 100 regular weekly and monthly activities and have been compiled by Alan over the past 12 months after the tremendous response to the 1st edition.

Speaking about his motivation to produce the Guides, Alan said, “In researching activities going on in our local area that CAREGivers could accompany clients to, or that clients could attend in their own time, I realised just how active our local area is. And then I had the idea to share the information more widely, and that’s where the WOW Guide came in.  The new edition has come about as with great pride I keep finding even more groups in our wonderful community”

“The 1st guide has been great at helping people find activities they are interested in and where they can socially meet others.  Overwhelmingly many older people tell me that the secret to enjoying life is to keep themselves stimulated by keeping themselves active.  Indeed, it’s often the case that clients who used to lead very active lives by participating in these groups find real value in our companionship services and although often struggling with issues such as frailty, memory loss or even bereavement can still enjoy themselves with the enjoyment gained from one-to-one companionship and help with everyday tasks.”

“In particular, it has been really useful to help people such as those who have been recently widowed or have moved into the area to be closer to their family or, as with our CAREGivers, for family members to accompany their loved one out to an activity.”

“As you can imagine, local groups are delighted to see their coffee mornings, lunch clubs, exercise, classes, social groups and support groups publicised so it’s a win-win situation for everyone in the community.”
