CAREGivers seize their opportunity at Home Instead

In at the deep end!

Home Instead Senior Care (Altrincham & Sale) is very proud of its fantastic team of CAREGivers and the care, compassion and support they provide to our senior clients on a daily basis.

We regularly have new CAREGivers joining our growing team and most are entirely new to homecare as a career, which means our thorough induction programme is essential in equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed.  We take time to carefully introduce CAREGivers to clients and ensure a good match for both parties.

However there are times when our new CAREGivers have had to “hit the ground running” as they are introduced to several new clients and then very quickly become a vital part of their care packages with lots of new routines to become familiar with.   Within the first couple of months of joining and working with us, 2 of our CAREGivers did exactly that, and have shown themselves to be invaluable members of our team.

Pauline Clemo and Stefano Scappaticci (pictured below) came to Home Instead from non-care backgrounds but have taken to their roles as CAREGivers so quickly and professionally.  Both have built up busy rotas with regular clients, whom they now enjoy strong relationships with.  In a short space of time we have received fantastic feedback from their clients and also from fellow CAREGivers who have worked with Pauline and Stefano and the team is delighted to see them flourish in this role.

We asked Pauline and Stefano to share their experiences with Home Instead so far;

Challenges - Stefano found that initially “time management and remembering client routines” was tricky, as well as the experience of "working with clients who have Dementia. “  Pauline found it hard to leave a client at the end of the call incase she was still needed.

In the process of starting with new clients, Pauline said that “the training helped prepare me and the clients have been very welcoming.”  Stefano said the process “was very good as I was shadowing experienced CAREGivers who besides showing me necessary routines, would usually brief me on a client’s personality, likes, dislikes…..which helped when ‘breaking the ice’ with new clients.”

Both Stefano and Pauline acknowledged they were nervous about meeting new clients and doing calls on their own after shadowing, Stefano said “humour usually overcame nervousness!”

We are delighted Pauline and Stefano have said they both thoroughly enjoy “the variety of work, meeting a variety of people” and “having the opportunity and time to give.”  When asked about recommending the role of CAREGiver to people, Stefano said “it can be a rewarding, fulfilling role with an opportunity to self-develop” and Pauline simply said “do it!”

Due to their hard-work, dedication to clients, working at times out of their availability, supporting clients with Dementia and generally going above and beyond, the team at Home Instead (Altrincham & Sale) have voted for Pauline and Stefano to receive our CAREGivers of the Month Award. (see picture).  We are truly delighted to have both of you on our team, huge congratulations!
