Having trained as a Registered nurse in Wakefield in Yorkshire, my whole career has been spent in the care of older people. I was initially inspired by a committed nursing sister who lay the foundation of respect and valuing of the people that we cared for in a Sue Ryder Home and that appreciation has remained with me. Diversions from nursing included Reminiscence and Oral History - how can you not hear wonderful life stories without wanting to preserve them? The generation that we are working with at Home Instead has lived through such amazing times and as individuals continue to live life to the full!

Working for Home Instead I get to meet some wonderful clients and matching them to committed CAREGivers gives me a sense of achievement that the care we provide is so much more then meeting physical needs - it is a meeting of like minds and the start of friendships!  Hearing feedback from the clients and their families of the difference that Home Instead CAREGivers has made, makes my day! One client said that she could no longer go out into the world, but that we brought the world in to her. Be inspired - make a difference!

Guy Kirk

Director - Guy Kirk

Hi, my name is Guy and along with my wife Carole I am the owner of Home Instead South East Northumberland. As a former social worker, academic and researcher I know that our population is ageing and believe there is a real need for high-quality services which support older people to remain living independently at home. After all, most people want to stay living at home in familiar and comfortable surroundings. Carole and I started our company with just that goal in mind - to enable older people to maintain their independence, stay at  home and get the most out of life for as long as possible!

At Home Instead we focus on building positive, caring relationships with clients.  My children are all now adults, but I understand how difficult it can be for families who juggle work and caring responsibilities and how stressful it can be for people with older parents to find the kind of support they can trust and rely on. I also know that the decision to seek care for your loved ones is often an intensely emotional experience.

We aim to provide our clients the very best support and will always work hard to get things right for you and your loved ones. Give us a call and find out more about how we can help.

When I am not working I like to spend time with family and also walk our dog Martha (our Home Instead Doggie Ambassador). If time I also like to bike ride, cook, read or play my guitar.

Director and Care Manager - Carole Kirk

I am delighted to be taking up the role of Care Manager at Home Instead South East Northumberland and to be joining such a great team of people. Our CAREGivers are second to none and our services focus on making life better for older people in their own homes.

I was attracted by the ethos of Home Instead because I believe that most people want to remain living at home and our service provides support to enable this to happen.

Having qualified as a social worker in 1986 and working for over 20 years in Probation I have strong assessment skills and a passion for working with people. My role involves managing the overall delivery of our service and maintaining the high standards that our clients expect from us.

I am looking forward to working supporting and developing our CAREgivers, creating employment opportunities in our community and building positive relationships with our clients and their families.
