Debra Sparks qualifies as a Mental Health First Aider

Our CAREGiver Experience Manager, Debra Sparks, recently completed a Mental Health First Aid course with MIND Tameside & Pathlight Ltd.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally recognised training course that teaches people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide help on a first aid basis.  It's the mental health equivlent of physical first aid.

Adult MHFA training is aimed at those who wish to support adults who may be experiencing mental health issues, either in their workplace or in their private lives. MHFA won't teach you to be a therapist, but it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis - and even potentially stop a crisis from happening.

Debra say's "When I first signed up for the course, I didn't really know what to expect, I guess we all think we know what mental health is, however the very title "mental health" brings to our minds something different to us all" Debra goes on to say "We all have mental health and just like our physical health, it needs looking after. 1 in 4 of us will experience mental ill health in any given year"

"I found the two day course informative and enlightening and it certainly gave me a different perception of mental health and in particular mental ill health"
