Coffee and a career to go!

When local lady Brigid Bird popped into the Assembly House in Norwich for a coffee, she did not expect to walk away with a potential job lead that would soon change her life.

Brigid was intrigued by the crowd that had gathered at the Assembly House and although she was not looking for a job herself, when she discovered there was a job fair going on, she popped in to have a look around. Brigid soon got chatting to Chris Carter, owner of Home Instead Senior Care Norwich, about the possibility of becoming a caregiver for the at-home care company.

Brigid comments, “Although caregiving was not a career I had previously considered, I was intrigued to discover that Home Instead offers in-house training and that they are always on the lookout for caring and compassionate people. I suddenly felt very excited about the prospect of becoming a caregiver and when Chris called me for an interview later that week, I kept everything crossed that I would be able to restart my career with Home Instead.”

One year on, and after a rigorous application process, Brigid is now thoroughly enjoying her role as a caregiver with Home Instead. In fact Brigid has come full-circle as she now attends recruitment fairs with Chris to help him spread the word about the company and introduce others to the career she finds so rewarding.

Brigid comments, “I absolutely love my job and cannot believe my luck that I bumped into Chris in such unlikely circumstances. Now I hope that I can help others to make the life-changing decision to start such a rewarding career. I almost have to pinch myself each day that this really is a ‘job’ because I enjoy it so much and have had the privilege of working with some truly inspirational people.”
