Two jobs for lively Laura

Home Instead, a service that provides at-home care for elderly locals, has promoted local girl, Laura Bushby, from a part-time caregiver to office administrator (and part-time caregiver!) after only two months with the company.

Home Instead East Northants newly appointed office administrator, and part-time CAREgiver, Laura Bushby

Laura Bushby (20) who lives in Irthlingborough, began her career working in a residential care home but after hearing about Home Instead’s work in the local community decided to become a caregiver.

Laura had only been caring for two months when owner, Mark Darnell, thought she would be the perfect candidate to fill a vacancy in the office. But, such was Laura’s love of her caregiver role that the boss and employee reached a happy agreement whereby Laura now works in the office and out and about delivering care to Home Instead’s clients.

Laura commented: “I love visiting my clients and learning more about their lives as they often have really fascinating stories to tell. That is why working for Home Instead is so fantastic; because I get the opportunity to build real relationships and friendships with those that I visit.”

Laura continued: “When Mark offered me the promotion, I was over the moon and immediately called my boyfriend to tell him the good news. I am settling into my new role well and am thoroughly enjoying it as the office team has all made me feel so welcome. I still do my care visits as well though as I would miss my clients too much if I didn’t visit them anymore!”

Laura is keen to recommend a caring career to any of her peers who are struggling to decide what they want to do. She says that the role requires a lot of patience and understanding as well as an empathetic nature but she finds it thoroughly rewarding and says she couldn’t ask for more when it comes to job satisfaction.

Outside of work, lively Laura likes socialising with friends and also keeps fit and healthy by going walking in the country and working out at the gym.

Home Instead’s services are tailored to the needs of individual clients and range from companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, post-discharge care, personal care, medication reminders, shopping and errands. The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
