A business specialising in caring for the elderly in their own homes has opened an office in Rochdale, potentially creating up to 50 jobs in the area.

David Bradshaw set up the new Rochdale office of the national award winning home care company, Home Instead after choosing to leave his previous role as Managing Director of a large engineering firm.

Commenting, David said “I was keen to start my own business where I could make a positive difference to the lives of people in the local area. The ethos of Home Instead really stood out to me as they focus on service first and business second. I want to provide a quality service that I would be happy to use for myself and my family.”

Home Instead’s main aim is to help people retain as much of their independence as possible by enabling them to remain in their own homes. Whilst the principal services involve the day-to-day care of older people in their own homes such as help with meal preparation and housekeeping, the company also provides a range of specialist services, which include Alzheimer’s and dementia care, convalescence and respite care.

David approached Rochdale Development Agency (RDA) to help him find a property for the new venture.

“I knew I wanted to bring my business to Rochdale and so RDA’s local knowledge has been invaluable in helping me find an ideal location for our offices,” said David.

Julie Evans, Business Development Manager at RDA said, “Not only did we help with securing the right property for Home Instead, we’ve offered support with recruiting local people for positions within the company. We also pointed David in the direction of Business Link for help with business support.”

David wants to talk to local people with compassionate and caring natures who are interested in working with elderly people. Candidates don’t need to have experience in the care sector as they will receive excellent training, but they may well have experience looking after a relative or friend.
