New at-home care business to create 40 jobs

A new service specialising in caring for older people in their own homes has opened its doors in Hemel Hempstead and hopes to create 40 new jobs in the area. Home Instead offices are based in Apsley and will serve clients in Dacorum Borough including Hemel Hempstead and surrounding villages.

Care Manager Bernie Bridges, who will be responsible for the day to day management of the team of caregivers and the care services, lives in Houghton Regis but has previously worked and lived in Hemel Hempstead and knows the area very well. She says: “I love working in community based care and we will be bringing to local people, care as it should be.  There is a great need for high quality care and the ethos of Home Instead is to deliver quality services based on excellent working principles.”

Bernie has a wealth of experience working in the care sector.

Previous roles include delivering community based advice and support for psychiatric services, residential dementia care, manager of a care home and working for a supported housing development in Hemel Hempstead.

Her experience will be reflected in the Home Instead service provided, she explains:
“I know what good care should be like but you have to be able to put it into practice. I aim for really high standards, going over and above people’s expectations. I want to help people to get what they want out of life.”

Already demand for services is high and Bernie is now looking for people with caring and compassionate natures to join her team.
“We need people who want a rewarding and flexible career delivering care to people in their own homes.  We offer full training so experience is not necessary but candidates may have had personal experience such as looking after a loved one which they have enjoyed.”
