Fast forward to a new career and new opportunities!

Nobody could have foreseen that 2020 and the far reaching effects of a global pandemic, would see so many people take a huge leap of faith and completely change their career path with new challenges and embark on learning a new set of skills.

Whilst in the grip of the pandemic, one such example of people making a career move into the care sector could be attributed to the 1000’s of people across the country who took the opportunity to volunteer with their local neighbourhood community support groups.  Little did they know, this selfless action would lead many to explore and take-up opportunities of employment within the social care sector and the reward of job security and career progression.

For one recently enrolled CAREGiver with Home Instead who had never worked in home care before, the appeal of one-hourly visits, no two days the same, being carefully matched with clients for their shared interests, and knowing there is strong support team to call upon if needed,  has been a complete positive.  Having made a conscious decision to step outside of their comfort zone and find a career that they could make a positive difference they are now three months into the role as a CAREGiver, achieved Team Member Making a Difference award and added a Care Certificate to their portfolio of qualifications, and now have an NVQ Level 2 now on their horizon.

In the words of our CAREGiver “I like the idea of enabling people to live as independently as possible and maintain their dignity in their own homes. Every day is varied as I work with people who have very different needs. In the morning I could be helping someone with personal care or dressing and then in the afternoon, I could be making lunch for another person, doing puzzles with them or going for a walk. I go home each day knowing that I have helped to make someone’s life a little bit better.”

This is just one example of the many CAREGivers who have joined us this year from a wide range of very differing careers and occupations and having completed our intensive training course, now have a career that offers satisfaction, fulfilment and progression.
