Home Instead York Announces CAREGiver of The Year

Huge congratulations to Bex Taylor who we’ve nominated as Home Instead Senior Care York & Ryedale’s CAREGiver of the Year for 2019. Bex has been part of the CAREGiver team for nearly 5 years now, getting by with the help of her trusty bicycle, a great mode of transport in the summer but a little more challenging in the winter… She actually does that many miles that she has to replace her bike every 18 months! During her time as a CAREGiver Bex has supported around 26 regular clients and has become invaluable to all those she sees. Well done Bex, congratulations from everyone for a well-deserved nomination.

Making The Most of Bank Holiday Sunshine

What fantastic weather we had over the Easter weekend! Here at Home Instead Senior Care York & Ryedale, we always try and ask our wonderful CAREGivers to encourage their clients to get out of the house for a bit of fresh air. Over the long bank holiday weekend, we were sent across some great images from CAREGiver's, who'd done just that. Home Instead Client Elizabeth doesn't need much of an excuse to sit out in the garden to have her lunch in the sunshine, in fact, two CAREGiver's sent across pictures over the bank holiday weekend of her doing so! Elizabeth said she was really pleased as she has managed to have her lunch outside twice now this year thanks to the glorious weather, and that her garden is her favourite place. Another CAREGiver Julie, also sent us across an image of her clients, Diane & Edgar sat out in their beautiful garden, again making the most of the Easter sunshine, in what was truly a gorgeous weekend.

New CAREGivers Complete April Introduction Course

This week we had a group of new CAREGivers join us for our monthly introduction programme. The course which lastS for 3 days covers everything required to prepare our CAREGivers for supporting our elderly clients in their own homes. One highlight of the course is using our sensitivity kit, designed to give CAREGivers an indication of what it might be like to live with some of the conditions our clients have to deal with on a daily basis. As well as being incredibly informative, it also makes for a funny photo opportunity which, obviously, we can't refuse! Interested in joining us for our next CAREGiver Introduction programme? Give us a call on 01904 690884 to find out more information.

Fun Day Out In The Sun For Joyce

Client of ours Joyce was making the most of the sunshine this week and headed out with her CAREGiver Julia. Together they visited The Rocking Horse Shop in Fangfoss, Joyce loved it as she remembered going there with her grandchildren a few years ago! Joyce thoroughly enjoyed the drive out, but had a bit of trouble with glare from the sun so she borrowed a pair of Julia's sunnies!

More than Just a Home Visit

Did you know that our CAREGivers love to take clients on trip and outings and the good news is that it’s all part of the services we offer. Our CAREGivers are happy to take people out and about to whatever they would like to go. Here’s some suggestions of the interesting things we can offer: • Trips to the garden centre are a firm favourite. Best enjoyed with tea and cake! • Shopping trips for groceries or ‘proper’ shopping to centres like Vanguard and York Designer Outlet are also popular choices. • We accompany several clients to local assisted bathing facilities that are equipped with specialist baths. This is great for clients who enjoy a lovely soak but struggle to have one at home. • We take clients to church services of all denominations and often round off a visit with a coffee with the parishioners. • During the summer, we take clients to the seaside to enjoy a bit a bracing sea air or to interesting places such as the York Bird of Prey Centre, where apparently, they do a lovely cuppa! • Visits to some of York’s wonderful National Trust properties make a super change especially as our CAREGivers are allowed in for free. • We also take people out to the pub for lunch, a fish supper, afternoon tea or even to their favourite restaurant. If you would like to organise something for yourself or a family member please feel free to give Daphne Ellis a ring on 01904 690884.
