Free Family and Friends Dementia workshop proved a huge success for Home Instead Wimbledon and Kingston.

Last week saw a very popular Free Dementia workshop for carers, friends and family in Kingston. Held in the conference room at Surbiton's YMCA to a packed room of local people. A very passionate Clare Jefferies delivered an afternoon workshop  - Understanding Dementia, looking at different types of dementias, how they affect the brain, and how to manage the symptoms and behaviours. Through activities and role play, attendees, including staff and users of Kingston Carers Network, Kingston Centre for Independent Living, Age Concern, full time carers of loved ones with dementia, YMCA volunteers and members of the public, all left with a better understanding of a disease that can have such devastating effects on families and those involved in their lives.

Clare commented, "So little seems to be known abut Dementia. If we can make a difference to just a handful of people, who have to deal with dementia on a daily basis, then these workshops are worth it. Home Instead - Wimbledon and Kingston has got some very exciting plans ahead for those living with dementia, so Kingston, watch this space.

Our next workshop will be held in Wimbledon on 4th April 2014 at 10am. Booking early is essential to secure your seat. Join our mission to help make our communities Dementia friendly contact 0208 942 4137 to book.
