Dementia Awareness is not just for one week – it’s all year round and Home Instead has lots going on each and every week of the year.
As the country gets busy with activities and events for Dementia Awareness Week, we reflect on all the dementia services we run each month.
We have five Memory Cafes running all over the community, a regular Friday morning Alzheimer’s Society - Singing for the Brain session, a monthly Gentleman’s Club, a Quarterly Afternoon Tea, Cinema and Theatre trips. For the last four years, we have recognised the importance of giving our clients dates in their diaries to look forward to.
We have the Royal Academy providing stimulation art sessions, local musicians bringing joy through their music, Morris dancers shaking their sticks, museums sharing their artefacts and lots of reminiscence and stimulation for those whose brains aren’t working as well as they used to.
As part of our commitment to the community, Home Instead runs all its activities on a not for profit basis – we receive no funding and have a dedicated member of staff whose sole responsibility it to organise events for those who so desperately need this type of support and look forward to each week.
A huge thank you to everyone who brings their energy and spirit including our nine fantastic volunteers who share their hearts each week.
