Tamworth’s Strictly tea dance

A fabulous afternoon of tea and cake on vintage china at the Masonic Rooms in Tamworth.

Tamworth’s local office of Home Instead Senior Care, a care agency that supports  people in their own homes, decided to celebrate Older peoples day with an afternoon tea dance. The Masonic Rooms on Lichfield Street kindly provided the venue for an afternoon of old time dancing with finger sandwiches and lots of cakes.  Copious cups of tea were available for the big turnout on the day

Home Instead Director Sally Clough said “ we wanted to organise an event that would help tackle  the problem of isolation and loneliness amongst older people within the community. Our experience as a care agency in Tamworth, tells us that many older adults need companionship and the opportunity to meet people and have some fun in informal but safe environments”

Sally went on to say “it was lovely to see so many on the dance floor; they certainly knew how to quick step , waltz and even jive!  It was Tamworth’s own strictly come dancing that afternoon”

Feedback from the event was extremely favourable and people were queuing up to put their names down for the next event. A great time was had by all.

Local businesses have been so generous supporting the event with prizes for the raffle as well as providing the music and food. The proceeds from the event are going to the Tamworth Memory Cafe which supports people living with dementia and their loved ones.
