Dementia cafe receives funds from ex Mayor

Supporting people living with Dementia is important to Home Instead Senior Care and one of the specialist forms of home care we deliver. We have been providing care and support to people living with Dementia since 2010. Our Clients enjoy visits from not only the same Caregivers but also at the time they want or need. This consistency and routine is really important to a Client who wish to stay independent at home.

We opened a Memory Café in Tamworth only 3 months ago and it is going from strength to strength with growing membership every week. This is a free weekly get together on a Tuesday at St Johns Church 10.30 till 12.30pm to enable people living with Dementia to get together both socially and for support. We have had amazing support from Heart of Tamworth to set this up together with the team from Dementia Action Alliance in Tamworth. The Memory Café starting up has helped towards Tamworth getting the status of a Dementia Friendly town

Last week we had a visit from the ex Mayor Mr Ken Norchi and his Mum. He opened the Café for us so it was good to see him again. Ken very kindly provided a donation from his Mayors fund and Sally received a cheque for £100. Sally said, “ we are delighted that Ken has chosen the Memory Café to donate this cheque to particularly as there are so many worthy causes in Tamworth. This money will help us to provide entertainment, exercise and social inclusion for the community who are living with Dementia.”

There is a series of events happening over the summer weeks including art and crafts, seated exercise, sing along and reminiscing about childhood memories
