Local company cares about dementia

Home Instead Senior Care, a local company who provide at-home care for older people in Stockport and the surrounding area, is supporting this year’s Dementia Action Week (DAW) which takes place from 20th - 26th May.

As part of Dementia Action Week, Home Instead is taking action to help make the local area more dementia friendly. The home care company will be hosting a care about dementia party on 24th May.

The free event will take place at Rose Walker Centre, Essex Avenue, Stockport, SK3 0JA from 12pm to 2.30pm. There will be a buffet, raffle and live music from Loose Change Buskers, and all are welcome to attend.

According to Alzheimer's Research UK, more than 850,000 people in the UK are living with dementia and they predict this number to rise to more than one million by 2025. Just this year alone, 225,000 people in the world will develop dementia – one every three seconds.

Speaking about the party, Clare Cliff, head of caregiver experience at Home Instead Stockport, said, “At Home Instead Senior Care we want to help people live well with dementia. For us, every week is a dementia awareness week as we have many clients who we care for living with the condition.”

Clare continued, “Almost all of us know someone affected by dementia and so we all have a reason to take action and learn more about it. When it comes to fighting dementia, awareness is key and we are passionate about supporting people to live well with it.

“Please do get in touch if you would like to attend our party or if you would like more information.”

With an ageing population, cases of dementia are increasing at an alarming rate, which means that more and more people will be affected by the disease at some point in their lives.

Dementia Action Week (DAW), an Alzheimer’s Society initiative, is designed to unite individuals, workplaces and the wider community to take action and improve the lives of people living with dementia.

During the week, Home Instead Senior Care will be sharing advice around helping people with dementia to live well. You should follow #CareAboutDementia on social media to find out more.
