Highlights of recent Presentation to Severn Business Network

Shropshire care Company Home Instead prides itself on an exceptionally high standard of care. It was founded by Rachael Birchall whose passion for giving those in her care a real quality of life, drives the company.

Home Instead, based in Leaton Knolls near Shrewsbury in Shropshire, covering the town along with Oswestry, Ludlow and the areas in between.

Rachael experienced  a ‘calling’ to work in the care sector after her own experiences with her grandparents forced into her into thinking there must be a better way to care for vulnerable people.

“After my grandfather became ill, he became far worse when he was treated in hospital. Things improved slightly when she was transferred to a community hospital but he sadly passed away leaving my Nan in a very vulnerable position. But when she moved into a flat next to me and I became her main carer that she got her life back. We were able to enhance her life right up until the end. It was after this experience that I felt a burning desire to fulfil my vocation.

“Although I had no formal qualifications in the area of care, I applied for a health care assistant job at care home, but I again I was badly let down and none of the activities listed on the website were carried out, instead people were left alone. I was heartbroken.

“I then became aware of the perfect partner – Home Instead Senior Care, which represented the safest, quickest route with full professional backing, legislation and full training. Home Instead is an internationally renowned franchisor with over 1000 offices worldwide and it has been trading for 20 years.

“It is founded on a similar ethos to my own. I provide an outstanding care service for older and vulnerable people in their own homes in Shropshire communities  and I ensure that I find the right people to carry out this care – starting with Heather my care manager.

“The main criteria when looking for carers is would I send this person in to look after my own parents. The carers don’t wear uniforms, we offer a personal service and they help with companionship, home help, personal care, respite and specialist care such as dementia and alzheimer’s ranging from an hour a day to 24 seven, 365 days a year.”
