5 Go Mad in Swindon - and raise £3000 in the Process

A bright sunny morning at an airfield in Swindon and 5 of our team from the Reading office of Home INstead Senior Care; Katie, Claire, Georgia, Lorraine and Kathleen are about to jump out of an aeroplane to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society. Between them they have raised via justgiving.com, pledges from friends and family and fundraising activities during Dementia Action Week back in May over £3000 for the Charity.

Aside from Lorraine, who has jumped before, they are all 'first timers'. Claire poor thing hadn't actually ever set foot inside a plane before in her life. Georgia on the other hand was looking forward to the drink's trolley and duty free shopping!!

The day went splendidly. Lorraine, whose nan died only a few days prior to the jump is now aiming to learn how to jump solo. Lorraine's nan was living in the dementia unit of a residential care facility, so the whole event had added significance for her and her supporters.  Kathleen though admits that this will be her first and definately last jump. Both her mind and body didn't get on with the experience of being tossed out of a plane 2 miles up in the sky.

Anyway a fantastic team effort by the jumpers, fund raisers and contributors. If you would like to say well done and pledge a few pennies, our justgiving page is still open
