Growing old can bring challenges, both for the person who’s ageing and for their family. It can be frustrating for our loved ones because they can’t do everything they used to and feel like they’re losing their independence. At the same time, it might be worrying for their family as they might not be able to be there whenever their loved ones need them.

Our 2nd afternoon tea and bowls event of the summer has just taken place thanks to the ongoing support from Tilehurst Bowls Club. The weather stayed fine and everyone had a grand time. Visitors from across the Reading area attended including some people who are carers for friends and family living with Dementia. A few brave souls even had a go at bowling for themselves. We were particularly delighted to welcome ssome friends from the Memory Cafe at Grange URC in Southcote. The Bowls club has happily agreed for Home Instead to visit again on a regular basis next season and everyone is looking forward to this
Jane Palmer is a special lady. She joined us here in Reading at teh beginning of 2019 having spent time looking after her own parents. She has been inducted into our @We Go the Extra Mile' club on the back of some glowing feedback we received from the family of a lady the Jane supports. The statement read 'She (Jane) genuinely cares and makes it her mission to keep mum as happy and safe as possible. She is always cheerful and really engages with Mum. She makes her laugh and that is a joy!' Wow. We are really proud of Jane and the difference she is making to the lives of both the client and her family

As part of the Dementia Action Week “Home Instead Reading” organised a few activities. They invited Clients and CAREGivers to visit Tilehurst bowling Club who they are proud sponsors of. Both clients and CAREGivers enjoyed watching the ladies in a green grass competition and also had a chance to have a go themselves. It was a lovely sunny afternoon with tea and homemade cake, which was enjoyed by all. Keep your eyes peeled for more exciting upcoming events! A big thank you to Tilehurst Bowling club.
