#YouCanCare week here at Home Instead Peterborough!

Hello there and welcome to this weeks article from Home Instead Peterborough. #YouCanCare week is hosted by Home Instead Senior Care, and here at Home Instead Peterborough, we join in with this too by highlighting stories of caring for older people. You can visit our Facebook page to watch the videos/read stories and more about this week here.

The other important message from #YouCanCare week is to spread awareness of the role of a Home Instead CAREGiver. So many individuals will never consider being a CAREGiver as a job role for them, this is because of all the myths surrounding this. It is important that we spread the word of what the ‘real’ CAREGiver does, by busting those myths and highlight the amazing opportunities of this flexible role and what caring for older people in Peterborough is all about!

In the past, we have gone through those misconceptions that seem to surround the role of what caring for older people in Peterborough is like. We have highlighted the 5 main myths that surround this role and busted them!

These 5 main myths are:

CAREGiving only consists of routine tasks.

Care support workers are unskilled

Being cared for in your home is only for the very ill

All home care services are the same

Most CAREGivers are middle-aged women

This answers to these myths can be found here.

Lastly, we have a lot of people believe you need to be a specific ‘personality type’ and this simply isn’t the case. I am sure you can imagine the eclectic mix of clients we have, from all walks of life, all personality types and we need people like you to match them. Matching our home care support workers by personality is hugely important to us, to give our clients the best chance to feel relaxed in their own homes whilst receiving the right home care support they need. On top of this, a lot of people won’t consider going into care work as they believe they need all sorts of qualifications and past experience too and this simply isn’t the case.

The message is simple: If you’re caring, compassionate and love people, then #YouCanCare for an older person! You don’t need training or experience – simply the right attitude and a kind heart.
