CAREGiver Debunking the Myth

A lot of people when they think of being a CAREGiver, they think of assisting with toileting and bed baths only. However, with Home Instead and our CAREGiver role this isn’t the case all the time. Only 50% of our clients need any assistance with their personal care. Personal care is a wide range of things from brushing hair, assisting with putting on socks, medication reminders to keeping socially active, or even helping decide what to wear for the day.

Companionship is a huge part of what we do. Each client is matched by personality to their CAREGiver for this reason. They can then visit for company and this helps with clients staying socially active and mentally stimulates them. Making a client a nice cup of tea and hearing about their lives is an amazing experience. You wouldn’t believe what our clients have done in their lifetime. They are extraordinary people and it’s wonderful to be a part of their lives. Some clients may not have family nearby and this is where we can come in, just having someone to talk to can really lift a clients spirits.

Other clients will need support getting out and about. They may have decided to give up their car and still want to go shopping. Taking a client shopping or to the dentist, doctors or anything else is also what we do. This helps keep clients independent and physically active too.

Whether you are 18 or 80, you can still become a CAREGiver, age is only a number. You may feel that you are not ready for retirement and would make a great CAREGiver. As long as you have the passion and drive that we do, you can help change a clients life.
