Government funding has helped local care company, Home Instead Senior Care to install a new e-learning centre for staff at their Uppermill offices and provide iPads for Caregivers to use during their home visits with clients.
‘Get Connected’, a grant scheme which aims to open up internet access for staff and users of adult social care services, operated by The Social Care Institute for Excellence, awarded funding to Home Instead. The money has funded a laptop and large LED screen used for in-house staff training sessions plus a dedicated desktop PC for staff to access e-learning. In addition, four iPads have been provided with mobile internet for staff to use for the benefit of their clients.
Home Instead owner Mick Sheehan comments: “The new IT equipment provides easy, high speed access to some excellent e-learning packages which we are incorporating into our Caregiver training plans. The iPads are in great demand and are being used in all sorts of ways. When our Caregivers are providing a companionship service they are great for playing games or doing research into anything that interests the client. However, the favourite use at the moment is browsing for old photos, movie clips or songs which can be downloaded and remembered fondly. We’re also setting up email accounts for all our clients so they can receive regular newsletters and information.”
Home Instead services include personal care such as assistance with bathing, dressing, eating and medications; home help covering all aspects of day-to-day housework, shopping, meal preparation and household duties; and companionship services that can involve everything from escorting clients on visits or appointments to simple conversation and good company.
