During the festive season it’s easy to get swept away in the excitement and frenzy of all the festivities but whilst families and friends are celebrating, many elderly people find the holiday season difficult.
There are over 2 million people over 75 living on their own in the UK, and for those who might not have many family members nearby, loneliness can really set in this time of year. With normal routines out of sync, usual visitors and appointments put off, even the television schedule is unfamiliar, it is important that we remember to take some time to look after our elderly friends and neighbours.
Every year we run our Be A Santa to a Senior gift giving scheme, looking to help those lonely and isolated. We collect, wrap and distribute presents to those members of our local community who may not get any. We’ll be collecting presents at our High Street Office or at our Community Café event at the Satellite Centre, Greenfield. We hope you can join us in giving a little something back to our local older people.
